“It’s been difficult, but I’m here”

The operation took longer than expected, but once an agreement was reached between all the parties involved to be able to make his signing official, it was time to come and go. Girona announced this morning the addition of left back Javi Hernández, who is already wearing the white-and-red shirt after being presented at noon in Montilivi. At the same time, he reported on the arrival of Reinier, although in the case of the Brazilian, we will have to wait to find out what his aspirations are at Montilivi.

Javi Hernández lands at the Girona club until the end of the season on loan from Leganés. In the operation, however, there must also beinclude Real Madrid considering that it has 50% of the player’s rights. First, when sports director Quique Cárcel conveyed his interest to Leganés to acquire the player’s services, there was talk of a transfer. However, the first option that was contemplated was not possible due to the difficulties that the white club put in formulating the contract and, after discarding offers from other teams such as Rayo Vallecano that appeared along the way, ended up closing an agreement in the form of a transfer without a purchase option. “The truth is that it has been a complicated summer. From the beginning we were interested in him and we are happy that he ended up in our squad. We wanted him from the beginning when the negotiations started. There have been different versions, but here we were clear that we wanted it sportingly and we finally got it right. I thank Leganés and Madrid for being able to reach an agreement”, explained Cárcel. Girona’s sporting director has celebrated the arrival of Javi Hernández acknowledging that “I am very happy because he is a versatile player who can play on the side, in the lane or in the left center”.

The defender has gone through a delicate situation as a result of the uncertainty, anxiety and tension that occurred while the negotiation was not closed. Javi Hernández had to stay out of training with Leganés during the pre-season due to anxiety arising from the situation. Once his future was decided, however, Javi Hernández was able to turn the page and today in Montilivi he was excited to face the new stage. At the age of 24, will debut in Primera after having played the last three seasons in Segona with Leganés and having gone through Castilla, Oviedo’s subsidiary (he made his debut with the first team) and El Ejido in Segona B.

“It has been a somewhat difficult situation, not easy at all. When everything seems done, it fell and it was hard, especially for me because I thought I was already there. Girona had interest all this time. I also had other options, but I saw a project in this club. It is growing a lot and is very well structured. Thanks to Quique and everyone for their interest. I am delighted to be hereJavi Hernández assured. The Andalusian has defined himself as a “versatile player”: “I have played a lot of central. It’s not a new position for me. They used me more as a winger, but I think I adapt quite well in both positions». At the same time, he commented that Míchel Sánchez’s intervention was “fundamental” in deciding on Girona and that “the feelings have been very good since they picked me up”. “I want to start giving my best to help the team”, he said.

Reinier also puts himself under Míchel’s orders

The signing of Javi Hernández was not the only one that Girona made official today. The club has also announced the addition of Brazilian midfielder Reinier Jesus Carvalho, who arrives at Montilivi on loan from Real Madrid until June 30, 2023 after spending the last two years on loan at Borussia Dortmund. The agreement with the white club does not include a purchase option.

The 20-year-old footballer will also follow in the footsteps of the defender on loan from Leganés and will make his first-team debut with the Girona side. Reinier signed for Madrid in January 2020, when he joined Castilla after excelling at Flamengo. The Madrid players, however, quickly realized his talent and therefore chose to transfer him to Dortmund so that he could advance in his career as a professional footballer. Last season he played 39 games with a total of 679 minutes between all competitions, so he is expected to count on even more minutes in his first experience in the elite of Spanish football.

Reinier is now at the disposal of Míchel Sánchez and today he completed the first training session with the group. “Hello, fans! I’m here. I’m very happy and see you soon”, were the Brazilian’s first words as white-and-red. With his addition, the coach sees how the core is strengthened to give competitiveness to an area that also has Samu Saiz, Rodrigo Riquelme and Borja García (he has just returned to training after the injury). Reiner profiles as a midfielder, but he can also act as a winger.
