INDES AWARDS OUTSTANDING ATHLETES IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

The National Sports Institute (INDES) awarded an economic incentive to a group of athletes for their achievements in different regional and international competitions, such as the Bolivarian Games, held in Valledupar, Colombia, the Central American and Caribbean Championship of Swimming (CCCAN 2022) and Pan American Karate Do Championships.

The awards were presented by the ad honorem president of INDES, Yamil Bukele, who highlighted the effort made by each of the athletes. Likewise, the official pointed out that the economic incentive given to the athletes was carried out through the Effort and Glory program that the institution executes to mark the path towards the professionalization of the different sports that are carried out at the national level.

The head of INDES said that investment in Salvadoran athletes is important to contribute to the development of different sports in the country and stressed that the achievements of athletes are helping to build the desired course for the country.

“For me, the largest and most important investment that can be made is in youth and, out there, there are statistics that say that every dollar invested in sports saves one $7 in safety and $7 in health; I am talking about an investment that has to be made in health and safety, so I am 100% in agreement that the best investment that can be made in all countries, and this government is doing it, is in you in the youth”

Among the award-winning athletes are the karate fighters Jorge Merino and Gabriel Izaguirre, who received $3,200 each for their respective gold and bronze medals obtained at the 2022 Central American and Caribbean Karate Championships and the 2022 Pan American Championships. goalkeepers Sofía Paiz, Paola Corado, Camila Alvarenga, Douglas Nolasco and Roberto Hernández; and the para athlete Herbert Aceituno.

For his part, the goalkeeper, Roberto Hernández, said “I feel very proud, satisfied to have this opportunity to receive recognition (…) and as an athlete we have dedicated many hours, sacrifice to be able to obtain sports results, we appreciate the fact that the sports institute recognizes it on this occasion”
