Götze’s goal for statistics friends: seven-goal spectacle – Frankfurt counters Bremen

Status: 08/28/2022 7:43 p.m

They can switch at Bundesliga soccer team Eintracht Frankfurt. At Werder Bremen they could have known that. Now they know.

At the end of the 4th match day, Eintracht Frankfurt won 4:3 (3:2) against Werder Bremen in a thrilling game. Mario Götze (2nd minute), Randal Kolo Muani (32nd), Jesper Lindström (39th) and Djibril Sow (48th) scored for the guests from Frankfurt.

In the end, Eintracht still had to fear for their first win of the season because Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug converted a late penalty (90+2). Anthony Jung (14th) and Leonardo Bittencourt (17th) had previously scored for Werder.

In the table, Eintracht Frankfurt has caught up with Werder Bremen in eleventh place with five points. The climber is one place ahead of Frankfurt due to the better goal difference.

Götze’s goal was one for statistics fans

Frankfurt got off to a better start in this game. Frankfurt’s Sebastian Rode intercepted a Bremen attack – and then it happened quickly, too quickly for Werder. Kolo Muani sprinted along the left side, danced out opponent Amos Pieper and found Götze in the backcourt. Götze took the ball, raised his head once, then shot. Flat bottom left corner, 1:0.

For Götze, 30, it was the first goal for Frankfurt – and goal number 100 in his professional career. Götze last scored in the Bundesliga in December 2019, at that time still for BVB. Now he has done it again, after 982 days – and on the 48th birthday of his coach Oliver Glasner.

Bremen scores twice in just three minutes

Bremen’s reaction was not long in coming. After a corner, left-back Jung got the ball – and shot straight away with his right. Kevin Trapp was powerless in the Eintracht goal – and it shouldn’t be his last.

Just three minutes later, Bittencourt, only 1.71 meters tall and not known for headers, headed a free-kick cross from Marvin Ducksch in a high arc over Trapp into the goal.

First Kolo Muani, then Lindstrom – Frankfurt turns the game

Werder fans’ joy didn’t last long, however. Frankfurt turned the game before the break. After Bremen lost the ball, Daichi Kamada served Kolo Muani – and he left two opponents standing and scored from eight meters.

The third goal for Eintracht followed the same pattern. This time Rode was the ball thief, he looked for and found Lindstrom. The Dane is fast, you know that by now. He was too fast for Bremen’s defense. He finished with a lob over goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka – you can do that.

Switching is such a Frankfurt thing

The fourth Frankfurt goal also fell after a switching action. The ball came to Sow via Kolo Muani and Kamada. The Swiss went for a flick, it was a good decision. He hit the top right corner.

In the end, Eintracht feared

The excitement became rarer now. One could almost speak of a preliminary decision, but the opponent was still Werder Bremen. In the final phase, Bremen then played like Bremen again – and it was spectacular again. It was only after Füllkrug converted a penalty kick that the stoppage time was already running.

And then, in the sixth minute of extra time, Bremen’s joker Oliver Burke marched down the right flank. His cross was dangerous, the Frankfurt Tuta wanted to clarify – and almost scored an own goal.

Bremen in Bochum, SGE in the top game

Werder Bremen are challenged on Matchday 5 in Bochum (Saturday, September 3rd at 3:30 p.m.). Three hours later, things get serious again for Eintracht Frankfurt – the Hessians receive RB Leipzig in the top game (6.30 p.m.).
