Frankfurt/Main – “Schumacher and Friends” won the charity football match in Frankfurt am Main. The team around Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher won 11:10 (4:4) against Dirk Nowitzki’s squad in the Frankfurt World Cup stadium in 2006.

Footballers (Mats Hummels, Kevin Trapp, Laura Freigang), ex-actives (Martin Hinteregger, Sami Khedira) and former and current sports stars (Sebastian Vettel, Fabian Hambüchen, Timo Boll, Sven Hannawald) took part in the fun kick in front of 15,120 spectators lot.

Host Nowitzki caused laughter early on. The 44-year-old sprinted across the field as a goalkeeper to miss two consecutive penalties in an amateurish way. The former Dallas Mavericks pro seemed stiff in his movements and didn’t look good when he conceded a number of goals.

Football isn’t really my thing, but it’s fun,” said Nowitzki. Schumacher scored in both halves, Germany international Freigang scored two goals. Formula 1 driver Vettel scored a goal reminiscent of Wolfsburg’s former top striker Grafite.

Europa League winner Trapp, who is rumored to be being courted by Manchester United, took turns with Nowitzki in goal. According to “Bild-Zeitung”, a decision on the transfer issue should be made by the weekend. The proceeds from the benefit game go to the 41Campus of the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Keep Fighting Foundation of the Schumacher family.

Stadium evacuated after charity game

The Frankfurt stadium had to be evacuated for a short time after the benefit game. “Attention, attention, due to a technical fault you should leave the building immediately using the designated escape routes,” boomed the loudspeaker announcement from the speakers. No elevators should be used. After about 15 minutes, the situation had calmed down and those responsible allowed entry again.

The situation didn’t seem really threatening at first either, at the exit of the stadium numerous fans were still waiting for the stars around Dirk Nowitzki and Mick Schumacher.
