Confusion surrounding Elon Musk |

“I’m buying Manchester United”

If anyone knows how to cause trouble, it’s Elon Musk (51).

The tech billionaire briefly shook up the Premier League on Twitter last night, writing: “I’m also buying Manchester United. You are welcome.”

Musk takes over Man United? It’s no wonder that the waves rose quickly until the Tesla boss caught his line again five hours later. “This is a long-standing hoax on Twitter. I don’t buy sports teams,” he tweeted. “Standup is my side hustle.”

With his purchase tweet, Musk cleared well over 500,000 likes, while his denial only got a good 50,000…

That Elon Musk wasn’t really interested in taking over Manchester United was suggested by another quirky tweet in the same thread: “To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party!”

Musk is notorious for his bizarre tweets. So he once wanted to allegedly incorporate Coca-Cola. “Next I’m going to buy Coca-Cola to mix the cocaine back in,” he tweeted at the time.

When it comes to acquisitions, Musk has enough other problems at the moment anyway. He is currently in a legal battle with Twitter because he wants to call off the roughly $44 billion takeover of the short message service.

Currently owned by the American Glazer family, Manchester United have made an epic false start to the new Premier League season. After two bankruptcies, the club is on the last place in the table.

If Musk had really wanted to buy Man United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, he would have had to put over two billion euros on the table according to the current stock market valuation.

The eccentric billionaire as club boss? At least it wouldn’t have gotten any more boring in the Premier League
