DRC: Leopards basketball winners of AFROCAN 2019 receive their vehicles

The men’s basketball Leopards winners of AFROCAN 2019 in Mali received their vehicles promised by President Félix Tshisekedi this Thursday, August 4, indicates a dispatch from the Communication Unit of the Presidency of the Republic.

The chief of staff of the Head of State, Guylain Nyembo, handed over, this same Thursday, 16 Toyota Fortuner vehicles to these 2019 African Basketball champions.

The 12 athletes, some of whom were represented by their parents, the two coaches, their doctor and the agent of the Congolese basketball federation, each received a Toyota Fortuner vehicle for their coronation on July 27, 2019 in Bamako by beating Kenya at the Afrobasket final.

“They had done the honor of the country and they are entitled to the recognition of the Nation through the father of the Nation”, affirmed Guylain Nyembo.

The Leopards / Basketball of the DRC had beaten on July 27, 2019 in Bamako Kenya (82-61) in the final of the first edition of AFROCAN / men, reserved for basketball players playing on the African continent. AFROCAN is the equivalent of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in football, a competition whose first edition was also won by the DRC in 2009.

President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi had received them on August 3 at the Cité de l’UA. He promised them, in addition to vehicles, the construction in Kinshasa of a modern indoor basketball stadium.
