Dominican Dellin Betances retires from the MLB after 11 years of career after not shining in the Minor Leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers

Dominican reliever Dellin Betances will retire from the Major Leagues after 11 years in the Major Leagues where he shone with the New York Yankees and the New York Mets, among others.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had the Dominican pitcher in the Minor Leagues where he left an appalling 10.26 ERA after recovering from surgery on his right shoulder, although he could not be the same again.

Betances was with the Triple A team of Oklahoma, belonging to the Dodgers, in which he only pitched for 16.2 innings, they made 19 runs, he gave 14 walks and he barely struck out 19 batters.

Betances debuted with the New York Yankees in 2011 and from there became one of the safest relievers in all of Major League Baseball. Over four years, from 2014 to 2018, he recorded more than 100 strikeouts, an example of his dominance on the mound. He was selected from 2014 to 2017 to the All-Star Game as a reliever in the American League.

In 2020 he was traded to the New York Mets, but discomfort in his throwing shoulder never allowed him to return to the level he showed with the rival New York franchise.

with only 16 games with a 7.82 ERA in just 12.2 innings of work.

At 34 years old, he leaves a career of 10 seasons in the Major Leagues with a 2.53 ERA in 374 games pitched, with 633 strikeouts in 394.1 innings of work. With the Dodgers he couldn’t pitch in the big leagues.

In 2017 he also wore the uniform of the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic despite being born in New York, United States.
