He crosses his fingers that he will be allowed to play in the US Open, in which he is registered, but Novak Djokovic receives the first bad news of the North American season: will not play the Montreal Masters 1,000. Canadian policy against the coronavirus does not allow any citizen not vaccinated against Covid to land, and the Serb has long since admitted that he had neither done it nor was he willing to do so.
I am preparing as if I will be allowed to compete, while I await to hear if there is any room for me to travel to US. Fingers crossed! ????????????????https://t.co/cIDfdPtZ5t

Djokovic’s official withdrawal occurs a day before the draw is held and is a possible warning of what will happen in a week with the Masters 1,000 in Cincinnati. Nor does the United States allow entry to the unvaccinated. Hence, the Serbian only has the hope that they will make an exception for him. Hence, he hangs on a personal decision that he can play the last Grand Slam of the year.
However, Djokovic was already prepared for this bad news for his career. After winning at Wimbledon, he admitted that it was a real possibility not to play the US Open, which he has won three times, and that this would not change his opinion about the vaccine.
The Serbian was no longer able to defend his crown at the Australian Open due to this very circumstance.
