Clubless defender Sandler signs with active NEC for three years | NOW

NEC strengthened itself on Thursday with Philippe Sandler. The defender, who was without a club after his departure from Feyenoord, has signed for three years in Nijmegen.

The 25-year-old Sandler played only six months for Feyenoord. Due to injuries, he only played two games for the Rotterdam team, who decided in May to no longer continue with the former player of Manchester City and PEC Zwolle. This left him without a club.

It soon became clear that Sandler was going to go to NEC. On Thursday he already trained with Rogier Meijer’s team, after which he signed a three-year contract. “I am happy to be in Nijmegen,” said Sandler, who is not fit yet and will not be able to play in the coming weeks.

“The past period has been difficult due to injuries, but it is now time to look ahead. The plan that the club outlined appealed to me enormously and I see a great role for me here. the mark of getting 100 percent fit so I can be of value in the group afterwards.”

‘One of the most talented defenders’

Technical director Ted van Leeuwen is happy with the arrival of Sandler. He even calls him one of the “most talented” defenders of the Netherlands. “Big, fast, elegant, intelligent, head strong and excellent on the ball”, Van Leeuwen sums up Sandler’s qualities.

“However, injury in all kinds of forms has hindered him in his career. The medical staff of NEC has given the green light with conviction after a meticulous examination. The damage is not permanent and through a sophisticated program Philippe should be ready to play in the foreseeable future. “

Sandler can make his debut for NEC on Sunday afternoon at the away game against FC Volendam. The club lost the first competition match against FC Twente at home last Sunday with 0-1. After the departure of Rodrigo Guth and Cas Odenthal, NEC wanted to attract another defender.

NEC has been very active in the transfer market this summer. Previously, the Eredivisie club brought Oussama Tannane (Göztepe SK), Pedro Marques (Sporting CP), Joris Kramer (AZ), Mikkel Duelund (Dynamo Kyiv) and Jasper Cillessen (Valencia) to Nijmegen.
