Striker Simon Terodde from FC Schalke 04 wants to continue taking penalties after his two missed penalties in the Bundesliga game at VfL Wolfsburg (0-0). “I always try to take responsibility.

“I’ve missed penalties in the past and still went back to the point,” said Terodde in the ZDF “Sportstudio” and added: “I’m really disappointed.” But there are definitely ways to do better in the future.

The Schalke striker missed two penalties in Wolfsburg (45th minute) and missed an opportunity to take a shot before the end of the first half. “Today I’m responsible for the fact that we didn’t win. Unfortunately, that’s the way it is,” said the 34-year-old: “As a centre-forward, I’m often the celebrated hero. Today it hurts, really hurts.” But the veteran had received many “encouraging words from my teammates, they don’t blame me”.

The first penalty had to be retaken, but Terodde didn’t hesitate to go back to the point after the miss. VfL keeper Koen Casteels held again. “After the game, I also ask myself the question,” Terodde answered the interjection, why he didn’t let one of his teammates have the ball: “In the game there were no two opinions.”

In the meantime, Terodde has no thoughts about a possible nomination for the national team and participation in the World Cup in Qatar. “I’ve done a lot in the second division, but then we’re talking about world class,” said the attacker: “If someone is needed in the end who’s supposed to head the thing in the 85th minute, then I’m happy to be there. But Unfortunately I didn’t qualify for the knockout games with penalties today.”
