Banyoles has everything ready for the 12th International Triathlon

The Banyoles Tourist Office hosted the official presentation of the Triathlon this morning

Banyoles International which will celebrate the 12th edition this weekend. The event was attended by the mayor of Banyoles, Miquel Noguer; the Director of Competitions of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, Jorge Garcia; and the international triathletes Natalia Hidalgo and Joan Reixach.

The mayor of Banyoles, Miquel Noguer, remarked that “this year we are again celebrating the triathlon as normal and we hope to experience a weekend of competitions that everyone can enjoy”. For his part, the Director of Competitions of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, Jorge Garcia, emphasized that “in recent years Banyoles has forged a solid relationship with national and international triathlon”. “Together we have managed to consolidate Banyoles as an international reference city for triathlon, not only because of the events it hosts, but also because many athletes have the city as a reference for their training”.

Natalia Hidalgo, who last year placed third in the Spanish Championship that was held in Banyoles, emphasized that “Banyoles has a fast circuit, privileged to be able to do all three tests in the same space, and with a very beautiful landscape”. Hidalgo added that, in view of Sunday’s race, “nothing has been decided and I hope that it will be a contested race”. While Joan Reixach from Olot, who competes for the Saltoki Trikideak club, dropped out of the championship at the last minute due to an injury, he regretted not being able to compete this weekend “in a very beautiful environment and where it would have been very special to compete because for me it is the best test, both for the environment and for the support of the fans”. Reixach highlighted “the level of the elite Spanish Championship test”.

An intense weekend of competition

The Banyoles International Triathlon weekend will start this Saturday at 9am with the Spanish Junior Olympic Triathlon Championship, in both the women’s and men’s categories. Triathletes will have to complete a circuit of 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers on foot. Shortly after 10 a.m., the Spanish Youth Championship will start, both in the female and male categories, which will also have to do the same circuit. At ¼ of 1 in the afternoon, the European Club Mixed Relay Championship will begin. The teams of the different participating European clubs will have to complete each of the four triathletes competing in a circuit of 250 meters of swimming, 6.6 kilometers of cycling and 1.6 kilometers of running. The first day of the Banyoles International Triathlon will close with the Spanish Championship for age groups and the 36th edition of the Catalonia Triathlon, which will start from 4 pm. The circuit in this case will be 1,500 meters of swimming, 36 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running on foot.

The elite Spanish Championship will be the protagonist of Sunday’s day. At 3/4 of 10 in the morning the test will begin in the men’s category and at 3/4 of 1 in the afternoon, in the men’s category. Each of the triathletes will have to do a circuit that includes 1,500 meters of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running.
