Youth European Championships
Last weekend in Lilleshall (GBR)
After a royal year 2021 (two gold medals at the World Youth Championships, world team bronze medal, etc.), Caroline Lopez has added two new international medals to her collection. Selected for the European Youth Championships, the Mussipontaine (U21) was adorned with bronze at the end of last week, in Lilleshall (England), in the individual event… but also in teams.
Associated with Mélodie Richard and Victoria Sebastian, the youngest France record holder took third place by dominating Italy for bronze (5-4) after losing to Great Britain in the semi-finals (1-5).
In individual, the Lorraine hopeful finished eighth in qualifying before dominating the Greek Papadoupoulo (6-0), the Spaniard De Velasco (6-4), her teammate in blue Sebastian, first in qualifying (7-1). Only the Turkish Basaran, future winner, stopped her in the semi-finals (2-6). But the Mussipontaine remobilized for the bronze against the Norwegian Storelv (6-2). “I’m happy,” she confided on the phone. T he start of the year was not very easy after a year in 2021 where I had won all the medals possible… Winning these two medals is a satisfaction. »
Next goal? The European Club Cup in mid-September with Riom (Auvergne), alongside, in particular, another Lorraine: Lisa Barbelin.
