American Pilgrimages – Icons of the 50’s – Marilyn Monroe, pilgrimage to Westwood for the Queen of America

Today we start a new series devoted to the biggest icons of the 50s. In this episode, we go to California for what is undoubtedly the biggest star of Hollywood cinema: Marilyn Monroe.

As an admirer I met in Hollywood told me: in Europe, we had kings and queens, but in the United States, the queen is Marilyn. The Queen of America left us on August 4, 1962, just 60 years ago. Since the death of Marilyn, at the age of 36, her portrait has been that of eternally young beauty.

His mysterious death shocked his admirers and sent shock waves around the world. From there, the tributes for Marilyn never stopped from all those who loved her. Her second husband, baseball star Joe Di Maggio, had flowers placed on Marilyn’s grave three times a week for 20 years.

Today, this tomb is the number one place of pilgrimage for Marilyn. It is located in California, in Westwood, halfway between Hollywood and the house where her body was found filled with barbiturate, an anesthetic that Marilyn took to sleep, in quantities that proved to be fatal.

Scott, an enthusiast, offers to take me there. Would you like to accompany us?

A creation by Alexis Gradel for the pilgrim in you.
