Ajax rents tall Italian striker Lucca with purchase option from Serie B club Pisa NOW

Ajax will hire Lorenzo Lucca next season with an option to buy from Italian Serie B club Pisa. In recent days, various media reported that the arrival of the tall striker was imminent.

Ajax was not the only club interested in 21-year-old Lucca, who can be definitively committed after this season for allegedly 10 million euros. Bologna also wanted to include the 2.01 meter long attacker.

Lucca played only one year at Pisa, which Palermo paid more than 2 million euros last year to take him over. In the service of the Serie B club, he scored six goals and four assists in 35 matches last season.

Lucca previously scored fourteen goals in thirty games for Palermo. The Italian is a five-time youth international of his country (five matches, two goals).

‘I am proud to wear the same shirt as Zlatan’

Lucca is very proud of his transfer to Ajax. “Zlatan Ibrahimovic is my great idol. As a child I saw a lot of videos of him. I am proud to wear the same shirt as he once did,” he says on the Ajax site.

“You can’t compare us. Maybe in stature, but Zlatan was one of the best strikers in all of Europe. I still have a lot of areas for improvement, which I hope to work on every day here.”

With Lucca, trainer Alfred Schreuder has his desired target man in the house. Earlier this transfer period, Ajax strengthened itself with Steven Bergwijn (Tottenham Hotspur), Brian Brobbey (RB Leipzig), Owen Wijndal (AZ), Calvin Bassey (Rangers FC) and Francisco Conceição (FC Porto).

The national champion opens the competition on Saturday with an away match against Fortuna Sittard. Last Saturday Ajax lost 3-5 against PSV in the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale.
