a fine Alsatian cuvée at Roland-Garros

For Alsatian tennis, one figure alone sums up the 2022 vintage of the French championships which ended on Sunday at Roland-Garros: out of 18 participants from the region – from the Alsatian “territory”, to avoid any confusion with the Grand Est -, six played in a final in the temple of French tennis. And two won the national title: Betty Michel (TC Illberg), at the start of July in the women’s over 60s, and Sarah Iliev (TCP Ostwald), in the middle of August.

Caroline Glaszmann (TC Strasbourg, ladies over 65), Marc Steger (TC Illberg, men over 45) and Valentin Faure (Ill TC Strasbourg), who accumulated performances in 17/18 years, reached the final of their respective category, without forgetting Clément Bergantz (Ill TC), finalist in the doubles in 15/16 years.

Among the other Alsatians in the running, we must also highlight the fine course of the Rosheimoise Thaïs Hanquet (15), who passed two laps before losing in the quarter-final of the ladies 3e series.
