WTA > Elina Svitolina: “Now I’m next to my people, where they need them”

During his interview with The Age, Elina Svitolina could not help but return to the beginning of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. At the time, she was still playing but she quickly realized that she would be more effective elsewhere.

« These were very complicated times with the war. It was very difficult to compete mentally. Having my family in Ukraine involved in the middle of the war is a very complicated situation to manage. My priorities and perspective have completely changed. I didn’t feel like I was in the right place when I was playing a tournament. It was difficult to concentrate 100% on my work, so I wanted to take a step back. I’m happy to take my time and focus on my life again. Now I am next to my people, where they need it. »
