At the tournament in England, the DFB-Elf is in the final after five wins and a 2-1 win in the semifinals against France. That takes place on Sunday in the legendary Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 fans. And of all things against the hostesses…
In the Wembley final against England – we still have a score to settle!
Wembley, 30th July 1966. Germany’s men lose the World Cup final to England 2-4 after extra time. Through the most famous non-goal in football history.
Wembley, July 31, 2022. Germany’s women want to snatch the European Championship trophy from England in London. It would also be a gratification for the scandal 56 years ago.
BILD spoke to the then Wembley goal victims Franz Beckenbauer (76) and Wolfgang Overath (78) about our women.

Beckenbauer: “I think they’re great. I recently met Linda Dallmann at an appointment. Women’s football has developed tremendously. I’ve seen all the German and English European Championship games on TV.”
Overath: “We helped shape the European Championship. The tournament is a big step forward in women’s football. When I see the girls, the facilities are comparable to good men’s football. The dribbles, the passes. It’s amazing what level it’s at.”
How does the final turn out?
Overath: “We’re outsiders, but we have absolutely nothing to lose. I’m impressed by the team spirit we have: everyone runs for everyone, no ball is given up. There is a 100 percent chance that we will win the title this way.”
Beckenbauer: “My tip: Our women win the Wembley title. But it won’t be easy against the strong English team. Draw after 90 minutes. In extra time, both teams score one goal each. Penalties shoot. And that’s where our women win because they are physically and mentally better.”
