With two goals, Popa leads German footballers to the finals of the European Championship

Alexandra Popa scored two goals to send the German women’s soccer team into the European Championship final on Wednesday, where they will face hosts England.

Germany beat France 2:1 (1:1) in the semi-final held in Milton Keynes.

In the 40th minute of the game, after a pass from Svenja Huta, Popa overtook the opponent’s defense in the penalty area and sent the ball into the goal from nine meters with a powerful shot. In the last minute of the first half, Kadidiatu Diani made a long shot, the ball hit the goal post and flew into the goal from the goalkeeper of the German national team Merle Froms – 1:1.

With 14 minutes to go before the end of regular time, a stormy attack by the German national team ended with Huth’s cross in the penalty area, from where Popa headed the ball into the goal, making it 2-1 in favor of the Germans.

The final will be held at Wembley Stadium in London on July 31.

The Germans will play in the final for the ninth time in their history. They were undefeated in their previous eight continental title matches.

In the second semi-final, the hosts of the final tournament, England, defeated Sweden 4-0

In the previous European Championship in 2017, the Dutch national team triumphed, beating Denmark’s football players 4:2 in the final.

The team with the most titles is the German national team, which has won the European Women’s Championship eight times. Norway has two titles, but Swedish and Dutch footballers have triumphed once.
