They answered the call of the association of Sécheval, the Worshipers of Byggvir. Several hundred Vikings, men, women and children, came for a weekend to set up camp in the fortifications of Rocroi.
Some have traveled several thousand kilometers to reach the Ardennes. Like the Ukrainians, the Czechs, the Poles of Ravens Brotherood or the English and Germans of the Ulflag group, who have come to find their French counterparts. As well as the Auvergnats of Rekkr or the Alsatians of Vestergard.
Re-enactments of battles
Medieval and craft markets, archery or ax throwing stand, demonstration of duels, tasting of period food and above all good humor and friendliness are all activities that visitors were able to enjoy under radiant weather.
As the high point of this surge of people from the north, the reconstructions of battles, on favorable ground, allowed some 350 warriors to show their courage to the many curious people who came to admire them.
This first edition, unique in France, will undoubtedly call for others. The municipality would consider, it seems, to welcome these Vikings every two years in order to put their string to the bow of the festivities of the department.
