VfB Stuttgart: Young people put pressure on – will the 2nd row soon play the 1st violin? – Bundesliga

A hammer volley from 25 meters into the corner, followed by a powerful right-footed shot into the far corner – VfB really enjoyed the test against FC Zurich (3: 2). At least in the 2nd half.

At the beginning, VfB sent their top eleven into the race against the Swiss champions. With the exception of Borna Sosa (24), who didn’t travel at all because of adductor problems, everything that was of rank and repute was on the pitch. But only the youngsters are remembered for a long time. Stuttgart’s Bubi squad (20.7 years on average) put their foot down after the break – and turned the deficit into a win.

Will the second row at VfB soon play first fiddle?

VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat (49) likes the way the boys are accepting the competition: “In terms of the whole approach, I’m much happier with the second half. I liked that the entire group of challengers showed why they are there and why they have strengths that help VfB.”

There was special praise for Naouirou Ahamada (20), who had been out for two months with a broken toe. Against Zurich he went ahead in the sixth position – and shone with a brace in just 13 minutes.

Mislintat: “Naouirou usually plays elegantly. I also like his aggressiveness in duels. He did a great job, and not just because of his two goals. If he stays fit he will be a real challenger for the midfield position.”

This also applies to Lilian Egloff and Enzo Millot (both 19), who have not yet been able to prove their quality in the VfB dress due to injuries. While homegrown Egloff put on a lot of muscle during the summer break, Millot has matured significantly in his role as a young father. Mislintat doesn’t question her sporting skills anyway: “Both have a good feeling for the ball and can free themselves from the pressure of the opponent even in tight spaces.”

One thing is clear: the talented players at VfB obviously feel comfortable playing the role of challenger. The test against Zurich proved that. And surely let Mislintat sleep soundly.
