Tornadoes must keep shaking – local sport

Mannheim. The good news for the Mannheim Tornados: After the split (7:4 and 2:4) at home against the Tübingen Hawks, the whirlwinds remain third from the bottom of the table in the South Baseball Bundesliga. The bad: The Mannheimers missed another possible liberation and still have to worry about staying in the league.

At the start of the relegation round, the tornadoes hit the penultimate Tübingen on Saturday in summery temperatures. In game one, Mannheim got off to a good start, with player-coach Juan Martin (holiday) missing. Carlos Perdomo in the third inning and Moritz Höhlein in the fourth each hit a home run. The Mannheim team led 6-0 after four rounds.

However, the Hawks didn’t give up and reduced the lead to 3:6 (6th minute) after a home run for three points from Luca Helber. But that was the only mistake by tornado thrower Daniel Gosselin, who otherwise gave a strong performance. After a Sacrifice Fly by Perdomo, who had a total of three hits, two runs and three RBI, Leon Still increased the lead to 7:3 for Mannheim, who withstood the final offensive in Tübingen. Closer Rex Helmig, in conjunction with his own defense, ensured the last out. The Tornados won 7-4.

However, the Hawks countered in the second encounter. Tornados start thrower Sebastian Martinez allowed three runs in the first three rounds. Then Oscar Bustamente scored the first point for the Tornados to 1:3 (4th) after a mistake by the Tübingen catcher Robin Schestag. The same Mannheim player later ran home after a shot from Luis Diaz to make it 2:3 (6 th ). However, Tübingen made it 4:2 (8th), and the Hawks pitcher Joshua Wyant, who was on the pitch every nine innings, brought the Swabian lead to the finish line.

Since the bottom Ulm Falcons lost their home games against the Stuttgart Reds (2:12 and 0:8), the Tornados have increased the gap to the last place in the table. “I’m confident that we’ll manage to stay in the league,” said player-coach Martin from vacation.
