Tomljanovic annoyed by the reporter’s question: “First question about my relationship with Kyrgios? That’s better …”

“I’m sorry to start with this topic. How was your relationship with Nick Kyrgios?” Was the introductory question at the press conference after her quarterfinals.

Tomljanovic answered somewhat reluctantly, but left no doubts afterwards.

“It’s been a long time since our relationship ended,” she said. She has always tried to keep her relationship private – it will stay that way.

“I’m definitely against domestic violence,” Tomljanovic continued. “I hope the problem can be solved. But I haven’t had that kind of experience with him,” she concluded.

Kyrgios subpoenaed on suspicion of domestic violence

Kyrgios is facing domestic violence allegations in his native Australia. The Australian judiciary summoned the 27-year-old for a hearing on August 2nd.

According to a statement from the Canberra Police Department, an incident in December 2021 is the subject of the investigation. “It is related to a private relationship,” said Kyrgios’ lawyer Jason Moffett, adding, “The nature of the allegations is very serious and Mr. Kyrgios takes the allegations very seriously.”

Tomljanovic and Kyrgios were a couple for around two years and went their separate ways in 2017.

Tomljanovic disappointed by question – Kyrgios is on trial

A few hours after the press conference, Tomljanovic took the floor on Twitter and expressed anger at the journalist’s question.

“It’s quite disappointing that after almost two hours of play, that was the first question the journalist asked me and after that he didn’t want to know anything more about the game,” she wrote. She was “happy that the headlines are now only about it,” she said sarcastically. “It’s better,” she added.

Raducanu praises Kyrgios: fans criticize British tennis star

While Tomljanovic had to say goodbye to Wimbledon, Kyrgios is reaching for the stars. After his quarter-final success over Chilean Cristian Garin (6: 4, 6: 3, 7: 6), the 27-year-old should have met Rafael Nadal. Due to Nadal’s injury-related withdrawal, Kyrgios ultimately went into the Wimbledon final without a fight.

Emma Raducanu expressed her admiration for Kyrgios after his performance against Garin. The British tennis hope posted the Australian’s initials and a magic wand on Twitter. This caused outrage among some fans.

“The tennis players supporting Kyrgios are just so confusing and, frankly, disgusting. This man has been abusing ball kids, umpires, linesmen – just about everyone for years,” denounced one fan. “That tells me you don’t respect the people who make your job easier.”

The legal allegations against Kyrgios were also discussed. “Incredible that you are supporting a tennis pro who is breaking the rules and is also facing a domestic violence case. I thought you had principles and values,” another tweet said.
