The first European women’s croquet championship is taking place in Latvia

“First of all, I think it is an honor for Latvia to organize the first European women’s championship here in history. I, on the other hand, have a great honor to represent Latvia. Of course, I will fight to win and go down in history,” said the Latvian croquet champion.

Croquet players have come to Latvia from seven European countries. In total, 28 players participate in the championship, six of them represent Latvia. 10 players have come from Spain, this country is the most widely represented in the European Women’s Championship.

“I think the importance of women in croquet should be promoted. Looking at the world ranking, we see that the top 10 are only men. Such a championship will hopefully attract more good female croquet players, says Rosaria Garcia-Zazaya, a croquet player from Spain.

The Croquet Federation was established in Latvia more than 10 years ago. Roberts Stafeckis has been working for many years to make Latvia appear on the world croquet map. It has succeeded in opening the women’s championship.

“We have the honor to host it as a historical first. As a side bonus, we got to design for the grand prize. Here, the winner’s plaques will be affixed to the front for about 20 championships there is a place. We calculate that for 40 years Latvian design will be in the world,” says Roberts Stafeckis, president of the Latvian Croquet Federation.
