The Celta is forced to readmit Santi Mina, convicted of sexual abuse

BarcelonaSanti Mina, a footballer still linked to Celta de Vigo, is sentenced to four years in prison for a crime of sexual abuse of a woman committed on June 18, 2017. Since the sentence was announced, which is not yet firm, the Galician team decided to remove the player from the discipline of the first team, until this Monday he announced that he is obliged to readmit him. The player, through a burofax, has demanded “his immediate incorporation into the team’s training sessions”. The entity has explained in a statement that it is “forced to assume the presence of the player in the preparation sessions within the stipulated schedules with his teammates.” Santi Mina has a contract in force until June 30, 2024 with Celta.

“RC Celta want to highlight that the footballer, given the legal situation it has generated and that damages the image of this club, has rejected an offer to play for a team in another league,” said the club, which reserves the right to claim, if the sentence becomes final, all damages caused by the player’s behavior to the entity both financial and image of the club, respecting today his right to appeal.

The events for which Mina was reported happened when the footballer was playing in Valencia and was on holiday in Mojácar with his friend David Goldar, who currently plays in Ibiza. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the striker entered the caravan completely parked next to a nightclub, where his friend was with a girl to have sex. Although the girl made it clear that she only wanted to be with Goldar, Mina ignored his words and ended up abusing her. The tax report details that the victim suffered injuries to his vagina, right arm and left leg as a result of all this.

However, the court decided to acquit him of the charges of sexual assault, for which the prosecutor sought a sentence of eight years in prison, and the private prosecution nine and a half years. The conviction is ultimately for sexual abuse and also involves a 500-meter removal order from the victim for twelve years and the payment of compensation of 50,000 euros.
