The juniors started official training on July 4, playing three test matches against Ukraine and Estonia in the first two weeks at the Daugava Sports House. At that time, three players – Luize Sila, Enija Viksne and Katrina Ozola – took part in the European U20 Championship in Sopron, where they finished in 10th place.
The aforementioned trio returned from Hungary on the evening of July 16, and joined the rest of the team on July 18. Head coach Aigars Nerips decided to take 16 players to France – Madara Liepniece and Snežana Gleba stayed at home.
The lack of staff at the German airline Lufthansa and a possible strike changed the national team’s travel plans. The intended connection in Frankfurt had to be replaced by a split into two groups. Half of the team traveled to Nice via Munich, half via the Swiss capital Zurich.
The travel day on July 20 turned out to be a long one. The first group arrived at Nice airport at 10:30 p.m., the next one at midnight. At the destination, the tournament organizer Philippe Manassero and his companions met the girls. On Thursday, the team held its first training session in the Serge Leirit Hall.
Tournament matches likely to be broadcast on Facebook Live in live broadcasts. True, Philip Manasero said on Thursday evening that streaming is not planned. Admission is free in person.
