Wandchneider brings to Xàtiva a silver and a bronze from the Dublin tournament

Silver and bronze for Thomas Wandchneider at the 2022 4 Nations Para Badminton International that took place last week. Specifically, between July 11 and 17, a new international para-badminton tournament was held in Dublin. The Irish town welcomed a total of 150 athletes who competed in the different functional categories.

We start the chronicle of this tournament with the men’s singles event WH-1 where Thomas got the third position and with it the bronze medal. The player from Setabense started as number one seed in this test, being framed in group A, in which he got the first place, hard worked after a tough match against the Japanese Keita Nishimura by 21-17, 15-21 and 21 -13 after 55 intense minutes.

Already in the final table, the first place in group A allowed Thomas to avoid the quarter-final crossing, accessing until the semifinals where he crossed paths with another member of the Japanese delegation, Hiroshi Murayama, who dismounted the CB Xàtiva player from the final after winning 21-17 and 21-12.

Finally, the Japanese would take the gold medal.

We close with the men’s doubles test WH1- WH2 where Thomas competes with his teammate Rick Cornell Hellmann, in this test the couple started as the second seed of the tournament remaining in group B, again the Germans got the three necessary victories to lead the final classification of their group and access the final table where they should once again face off against a pair of Japanese, specifically the one formed by Daiki Kajiwara and Keita Nishimura, which they managed to win 21-15 and 21-14, achieving thus the pass to the final.

In the final they faced the Malaysian couple formed by Noor Azwan Noorlan and Muhammad Ikhwan Ramli in a great match that lasted 64 minutes and was decided in three sets. The first of the sets was very even and fell on the side of Thomas and Rick in a frantic finale decided by a result of 20-22.

The second set was very similar to the first, but on this occasion the Malaysians managed to widen the difference in the final of the set to close it and put the equality on the scoreboard by winning 21-17.

And unfortunately, in the third set, the fatigue was noticeable in the German couple that lost 21-11, thus obtaining a new silver in international competitions.
