“Teófilo arrived today and trained normally with Deportivo Cali

Deportivo Cali continues to prepare what will be its sports debut this Thursday against Deportes Tolima, for the second day of the Colombian League, on the field of the Manuel Murillo Toro stadium.

Máyer Candelo will reappear in the ‘Verdiblanco’ team, now in his new role as soccer coach, and among the members of his coaching staff is Professor Darío ‘Chusco’ Sierra.

Both coaches already know what it’s like to work together, since both were part of the coaching staff that Cortuluá had in 2019 and that reached two finals of the promotion tournament.

‘Chusco’ held a dialogue with ‘La Tocata’ from the newspaper El País, where he spoke about this new experience now at Deportivo Cali.

“The main challenge is to fill the boys with confidence and from this manage the locker room, strengthen the boys and achieve the objectives that are to qualify for the eight and reach the final,” Darío Sierra said.

On the subject of the continuity of the processes, something that is not very common in Cali due to the issue of results, he said: “Today we are guaranteed because we are here, we know that a short or long-term process must be won and Deportivo Cali ask for it.”

One of the points he touched on was the case of Teófilo Gutiérrez, who from Barranquilla gave as a fact that he was leaving Cali to return to Junior: “Teo arrived today, it was a joy for the group, he arrived with a good attitude, he spoke, he did a good work and good disposition. We hope that Teo gives us all that football he has and with which he contributed to the Deportivo Cali title”.

Finally, Darío Sierra spoke about his relationship with Hernán Torres and explained why he did not continue working with the Tolima coach despite the fact that for many years they were together directing teams such as Medellín, Millonarios, among others.

“My relationship with Hernán Torres is good. What happened is that when we left Melgar de Arequipa, Óscar Martán called me to join the coaching staff that he put together with Mayer Candelo in Cortuluá and during those nine months we achieved two finals,” Sierra pointed out.

Deportivo Cali’s debut in the Colombian League will be this Thursday (8:10 pm) against Deportes Tolima, for date 2 of the championship.
