MADRID, 11 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Castellón native, number 43 in the world, managed to take a 5-1 lead in the first set, and, although the North American responded with a ‘counterbreak’, she broke her opponent’s serve again to win the set.

After three breaks for each and after Sorribes wasted three match points, the second set had to be decided in the ‘tie-break’, where the Spanish defended her serve and signed three mini-points that gave her the victory in one hour and 57 minutes.

In the second round, Sorribes will face the French Clara Burel, who managed to win with solvency this Monday against the Chinese Lin Zhu (6-0, 6-1).

Meanwhile, the Catalan Marina Bassols fell in the first round of the Budapest tournament, also in the WTA 250 category and on clay, against the American Bernarda Pera (6-2, 7-5).

The one from Blanes managed to access the main draw of the Hungarian contest after surprisingly coming back from her previous duel against the Belarusian Yuliya Hatouka when she lost 0-6, 0-5 and 0-30 (0-6, 7-5, 6 -4).
