Simona Waltert triumphed against the seventh in the world rankings despite losing the starting set and three match points against herself. 6:7 (7:5), 6:3, 7:6 (8:6) was the result after more than three hours of play in favor of the 21-year-old from Graubünden.
Waltert, who is in the main draw in Vaud thanks to a wildcard, was 6-3 down in the tie-break of the decisive set against Collins before turning things around by winning five points in a row.
Waltert had already proven her strong form last week by winning the title at the ITF tournament in Amstelveen in the Netherlands. Her opponent in the 2nd round is the Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa (WTA 126). (SDA/mam)
