Short sports news week 26: Lennard Hofstede back on track

Saturday

CyclingMore than three months after his fall in a French race, Lennard Hofstede is racing again. De Poeldijker broke his ankle in March. Last week he already competed during the Dutch National Championships on the road, today he drove the opening time trial of the Sibiu Tour.

FootballRichard Grootscholten is no longer director of Legia Warsaw’s youth academy. De Naaldwijker had been working in Poland since 2019, but is now leaving.

Badminton – Andy Buijk from Wateringen will travel to Hamburg with the national selection AirBadminton on Monday for the first tournament in the Urban Series. This tournament is the first major international tournament towards the possible race to the World Beach games in Bali in 2023.

Friday

TennisArantxa Rus also hit the last ball in doubles at Wimbledon. In the second round, the Monsterse and her partner Viktoria Kuzmova were eliminated in three sets by the Polish Magdalena Frech and the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia 4-6, 7-5, 3-6.

Wednesday

CyclingMenno Huising from Wateringen will participate in the European Championships for juniors from 7 to 10 July. This European Championship will be held in Anadia, Portugal. Six riders have been selected.

TennisArantxa Rus has advanced to the second round in Wimbledon doubles. Rus plays together with Viktoria Kuzmova. The two won 6-3 and 6-3 against a duo from Australia.

Monday

Gymnastics – The Wateringse Sophie van Beek achieved third place in the senior division seniors category in a strong field of participants on Sunday during the Dutch trampoline jumping championship. On Saturday during the Dutch Championships synchronized jumping, she and synchronized partner Maura de Vos missed the podium by five hundredths.

Tennis Arantxa Rus does not have to play on the first day of Wimbledon. Her first round match is scheduled for Tuesday. Rus then plays against Catherine Harrison.
