School Sports Games prepare provincial finals

Eleven thousand school athletes in the under 14 category and young men and women, from the fifteen districts of the region, compete to represent their province in the regional stage, in search of a place in the national grand final next October and November.

The School Sports Games are a sports competition that takes place in all the commune of the region and that brings together more than eleven thousand female and male athletes, from the Sub 14 and Youth categories, with the aim of generating a sports instance of competitive participation. and inclusive, convened by the Ministry of Sports and organized by the National Sports Institute. The event brings together all the students of the school system, primary and secondary education, from municipal educational units, subsidized individuals and paid individuals, to constitute a sports development platform.

In the Coquimbo region, in the month of July, the communal phase of the 2022 School Sports Games was launched for the second week of August and thus began the regional competition for team sports and the direct finals for individual sports. in the under 14 category, they will compete in the following sports disciplines for men and women: chess, athletics, handball, basketball, cycling, soccer, judo, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis and volleyball, in the under 17 category they will compete in: athletics, handball, basketball, soccer, futsal, swimming, table tennis and volleyball.

For the Ministerial Regional Secretary of Sports, Fernando Medina Vergara, “This is an opportunity for our children and young people to participate and compete in many sports disciplines. A wide range of possibilities opens up for them to integrate various teams, depending on the sport and represent, they will be able to represent our region, in the national final of the National Games, they will also be able to integrate into the sports that are part of the Promesas Chile program. In each tournament they will be observed by our technicians and methodologists, for the early detection of talent”.

Meanwhile, the Regional Director of the National Sports Institute, Jonathan Pino Naranjo, added “We are happy with the number of boys, girls and young people from all the communes of the region who represent their schools, colleges and high schools and who currently participate directly in these Games, which despite the reservations and care imposed by the health authority, we have reached a number close to eleven thousand athletes who are experiencing the stage of communal competition, and then in the month of August start the provincial competitions and prepare for the regional selection.

The provincial team sports competition: Futsal, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, for the under 14 category, in the province of Elqui, will be held from August 17 to 13, in the province of Limarí, from August 16 to 19. August and in the province of Choapa, between August 09 and 12. Regarding individual sports, they will be held in La Serena, Canela, Coquimbo, Ovalle, Illapel, on the following dates: Swimming (June 30), Chess (August 12-13), Judo (August 20), Tennis Table (August 26-27), Cycling (August 27), Athletics (September 9-10) and Taekwondo (November 19).
