Santiago Lorenzo reached the semifinals of the South American table tennis – Diario San Rafael

In the city of Pereira, Colombia, the South American Table Tennis Championship for Seniors continues to be played within the Argentine National Team’s squad. Santiago Lorenzo, from San Rafael, lost one of the singles semifinals on Tuesday night, closing a huge contest.

Since Sunday the talented athlete from our city began to play in the individual modality, he started in Group 5 beating Yeifer Soteldo Goyo from Venezuela by 3 sets to 1 with the following partials: 9-11, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-6, while in his second match in a close duel he beat Peruvian Rodrigo Hidalgo by 3 sets to 2 (9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5 and 11-6).

Upon reaching the round of 16, Lorenzo faced Neycer Robalino from Ecuador whom he won 4 sets to 2 (11-6, 11-8, 11-5, 6-11, 6-11 and 11-7). .

This Tuesday in his quarterfinal game he collided with Eric Jouti from Brazil whom he won 4 sets to 2 (2-11, 11-9, 11-8, 13-11, 5-11, and 11-3) to get into the semi-finals. Instance in which he faced Gastón Alto from Mendoza and in a great game, Alto won 4 sets to 3 (6-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-1, 9-11, 11-4 and 11- 5).

Let us remember that Santiago last Friday became the South American champion with the men’s team, achieving the gold medal for our country together with Francisco Sanchi, Gastón Alto and Horacio Cifuentes.

In the final our representative played the decisive point, beating Rafael Turrini by a tight 3 sets to 2 with partials 11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 13-11 and 11-3 to give the 3-0 to Argentina against Brazil and celebrate the title.

Thus, Santiago, who arrives after a more than positive season in the Charleville-Mezieres Ardennes TT in France and in the First Division of Portugal, wearing the colors of Associacão Desportiva Galomar, closes an excellent tournament in Seniors.
