CHIEF PSSI General Mochamad Iriawan confirmed that he had communicated with the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF). He said it was not impossible that EAFF would accept PSSI with open arms.

“Yes (communication with EAFF) has conveyed us through the Secretary General. Maybe he (EAFF) is happy if we enter,” said Mochamad Iriawan to the media crew which was also attended by the MNC Portal Indonesia (MPI) Team, Tuesday (19/7/2022) .

For your information, PSSI was encouraged by a number of Indonesian football lovers to leave the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF). The reason is because the competition in the AFF is no longer healthy, ranging from allegations of elephant football practices to age theft.

In addition to encouraging PSSI to leave AFF, Indonesian football lovers also suggested PSSI to join EAFF. The hope is that by joining EAFF, the quality of the Indonesian national team will be boosted.

Because, the Indonesian national team will regularly meet with established teams in East Asia such as Japan, South Korea and China. Just like AFF, EAFF also has a regional tournament titled EAFF Football Championship.

However, when asked whether PSSI really left the AFF, Mochamad Iriawan could not give a definite answer. According to the man who is usually called Iwan Bule, everything must be carefully thought out.

“We will discuss it carefully. Because we cannot decide directly, we are waiting for the profit and loss,” said Iwan Bule.

Indonesian National team

If you decide to withdraw from the AFF in the near future, the Indonesian national team will automatically miss the 2022 AFF Cup which will be held from 23 December 2022 to 15 January 2023. Just to note, next month or in August 2022, the 2022 AFF Cup draw will be made.

Of course, it would be surprising if the Indonesian national team did not take part in the AFF Cup. Because, the Indonesian national team is a leader in this event.

Although they have never won, the Indonesian national team is the team that has finished runner-up in the AFF Cup the most, six times to be exact. Therefore, it is interesting to wait for what decision PSSI will take next.
