Physical problems hamper Guillaume Gaulin’s season

The Valdorien judoka will move to seniors next year

Guillaume Gaulin ended his season earlier than expected in his last stint with the Under-21s.

JUDOOn a good run to try to qualify for the world judo championships, Guillaume Gaulin saw his ambitions come to an end much sooner than he wanted.

In preparation for the next stage of qualifying, Gaulin had to forfeit before even making it to the national stage. Victim of cellulitis in one leg which developed the day before the competition, he had to forfeit.

In the meantime, however, the Abitibi was able to travel to Paks, Hungary, for the European Junior Cup. Limited in his training, Gaulin was obviously not on his plate and lost in the second round against an Italian judoka. In control during the engagement, his opponent surprised him with an effective counter-attack to save himself with victory.

This event also meant the end of Gaulin’s U21 career. From next season, the Valdorien will now fight among seniors. After a short training camp on the sidelines of the competition, the athlete will return to Quebec to spend a few weeks with his family, before undertaking studies in mechanical engineering at the Polytechnique school in Montreal. He will also have the opportunity to train in the metropolis, at the national center.
