Panama achieved 10 medals in Central American Judo in El Salvador

Panama had an outstanding participation in the first date of the Central American Judo Championship that was held at the Palacio de los Deportes Carlos ‘El Famoso’ Hernández in the city of San Salvador, El Salvador.

The Isthmian delegation had a harvest of ten medals, of which five were gold, one silver and four bronze.

The gold medals were won by Kamilah Campaña (-44 kilograms), Nemesis Candelo (-48 kilos), Bernabé Vergara (-60 kilos), Ronal González (-73 kilos) and Alexis Harrison (-81 kilos).

Quibiane Waisome won the silver medal in the +100 kilogram category, while the bronze went to Fernando Martínez and Mario Cordones (-66 kilos), Lilian Cordones (-52 kilos) and Kristine Jiménez (-57 kilos).

They were still pending to define the results of the team tests, which were held last night.

The trainers were Librada Alvarado, Amado Molina and Nelo Pita. The delegate was Carlos Nieto, while the referees were Omar Simmonds and Eduardo Sealey.

Before leaving for Cuzcatlecan lands, the president of the Panamanian federation of this sport, Estela Riley, stated that the main objective of this competition was that it would serve as a thermometer for future competitions, in addition to winning medals.

“For us, this event should be a thermometer to see how we are doing, what improvements need to be made between now and the Central American Games that will take place in November,” Riley said.

The Central American Games, which will be jointly organized by Costa Rica and Guatemala, will be held from October 27 to November 14.

Riley will chair body

During the competition, the leader of the Panamanian Judo Federation, Estela Riley, was elected as president of the Central and North American Judo Confederation (CCNJ).

Riley will be joined on the board by AllanSattin (Canada), Vice President; Lilian Estrada (Mexico), Secretary General; and Donal Somarribas (Nicaragua), treasurer.
