NFL: Browns offer quarterback Josh Rosen to one-year deal

CLEVELAND — As they await the NFL’s decision on Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns have signed Josh Rosen to a one-year contract after evaluating several quarterbacks over the past few days.

Rosen, who is a former first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals, was notably preferred over AJ McCarron.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, many observers believe that at 25, Rosen is ready to prove that he deserves his place in the NFL.

Since being traded by the Cards a year after his selection, Rosen has played with four other organizations on the Goodell circuit, namely Miami, Tampa Bay, San Francisco and Atlanta.

Watson could be suspended by the Goodell circuit after he was accused by about 20 women of sexual misconduct during massage sessions while the quarterback played for the Houston Texans.

If Watson is sanctioned, then the Browns will likely opt for veteran Jacoby Brissett for the No. 1 quarterback position.

Josh Dobbs is also part of the organization, but the 27-year-old player never got an NFL start and the Browns want to hire another veteran if ever Watson is suspended for several games.

The Browns traded quarterback Baker Mayfield, the 2018 NFL Draft No. 1 pick, to the Carolina Panthers earlier this month after agreeing to pay a $10 million portion of his 2022 salary.
