Naxhelet, a golf course with high environmental value

Played in the open air, golf is ranked as the fourth most polluting sport, but this is not the case in all areas… In Naxhelet, in the municipality of Wanze, golf is played on land with high environmental value.

In the heart of the countryside between Namur and Liège nestles the Naxhelet estate, a green setting made up of a hotel, a farm, a wellness center and a golf course, awarded the GEO label. “That means that we don’t use any chemicals to protect plants or destroy weeds. Nature itself is growing stronger. On the one hand, we have chosen plants that are more resistant to diseases. D on the other hand, we use compost-tea, a mixture of water with humus taken from the surrounding undergrowth which is used to develop micro-organisms, bacteria and fungi useful in the soil to fight diseases “explains Bernard Jolly, owner of the premises.

Protect biodiversity

Goodbye phytosanitary products, hello fauna and flora! And indeed, here, the biodiversity is very well preserved… “Keeping the soil alive allows earthworms to develop. They aerate the soil through their action and mobility,” rejoices Françoise Jolly. On the ground, there are also several hives where a multitude of bees are active. “They are pollinators and therefore very important for the biodiversity of the territory, but in addition, they produce honey, the origin of which is known.” But that’s not all… “Each year, we are very lucky to have a pair of swans returning to nest here. This once again shows the quality of the biotope on the estate.”
