National Rebellion Day celebrated in Cuban city

Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) In the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Serafín Sánchez Valdivia in this central city of Cuba, the color, music and joy stood out today during the provincial act for July 26, Rebellion Day National.

The municipality of Sancti Spíritus, some 350 kilometers east of Havana, was chosen for its outstanding and sustained work to carry out the provincial act for the 69th anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.

The Colmenita from Sancti Spiritus Owners of Happiness, the Small daytime serenade (Silvio Rodríguez) by Pancho Amat -National Music Award- and the outstanding troubadour Eduardo Sosa, the peasant melody and other artistic modalities were present.

Ernesto Gómez, president of the University Student Federation (FEU) at the University of Medical Sciences, pointed out that this generation will never allow the achievements of the Revolution to be snatched away.

Later, the also delegate to the X Congress of the FEU expressed that Cuba belongs to the Cubans and has committed young people who have sworn allegiance to him.

Several were the companies and municipal and provincial entities that received recognition, among them the sectors of Education, Public Health, Sports and Culture.

In the case of Sport, these fell on the men’s archery and basketball teams –second place in the National Championship-, as well as on the boxing and baseball teams, the latter third in the 61st National Series.

Deivy Pérez, first secretary of the Party in the province, underlined the commitment to remain faithful to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to his ideas, and to keep alive the spirit of resistance and the faith in victory that he instilled in us.

This brave people, he said, grows in the face of difficulties, continues the march as requested by Serafín Sánchez -Hero of the three wars of independence against Spanish colonialism- and faces the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba. .

The celebration recalled the armed action that took place in the eastern provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo on July 26, 1953, carried out by a group of young revolutionaries led by Fidel against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
