Most successful Leipzig club – LEIPZIGER SPORTLÖWEN eV

Every year the “Lipsiade” (a kind of “city championship”) is held in the sports district of Leipzig in a wide variety of sports. This year, too, the two-day competition attracted a large number of clubs and judoka to the centrally located sports hall on Brüderstraße. With a total of 64 judokas hungry for victory, the Sportlöwen were the club with the most starters, followed by JC Leipzig (57) and the Judo Holzhausen club (42).

In the end, the club won an impressive 45 medals, 16 of which were gold. In all four male age groups (U11, U13, U15 and U18) the sports lions won the team ranking. The U13 girls took second place. In the female U11 it was 3rd place.

The sports lions also triumphed in the medal table (16x gold, 16x silver, 13x bronze; 45) ahead of the Judo Club Leipzig (16/12/10; 38) and Holzhausen (11/6/11; 28).

Club President Tino Rose was particularly pleased about three medals:

“Three athletes from Ukraine immediately won gold in their first competition. That was a great sense of achievement for the children who fled Ukraine in March.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with our performance. The Lipsiade, the unofficial city championship, is a good indicator of youth work and the many medals show us that we are doing a lot right.”

At the end of the school year, the Kyu exam (July 9th & 10th) and the club festival on July 10th are still on the program.
