The Croatian Petra Martic eliminated the second favorite, the Swiss Belinda Bencic 6-3 and 7-6 (2) to reach the semifinals of the tournament in Lausanne where she will face the French Caroline Garcia, executioner of the Spanish Sara Sorribes.
It took the Split player 1 hour and 37 minutes to earn her second victory in four meetings with the Olympic champion. Bencic won the most recent two, on grass. But the only disputed on clay, like the one in Lausanne, was for the Balkan.
