MAINZ – Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 has found what they are looking for in a strong midfielder. Angelo Fulgini will move from SCO Angers to Rheinhessen. The 05ers announce this in a press release. The Frenchman with Ivorian roots signed a four-year contract until 2026 at Bruchweg.

The access will already travel with the team to the training camp in Grassau, which starts on Wednesday. The 25-year-old scored five goals in last Ligue 1 season and has been associated with the Bruchweg club for days. With his player profile, Fulgini fills the gap left by the departure of Jean-Paul Boetius. And competes with Aymen Barkok, who came to Mainz from Frankfurt, for another entry in the center. The online portal “transfermarkt.de” estimates the market value of the Frenchman at 12 million euros. As usual, the club did not provide any information on the transfer fee. The French newspaper “Le Courier d’Ouest” recently named a sum of 7 million euros.

“Top trained in France”

Sporting director Martin Schmidt: “Angelo Fulgini received a top education in France, has gone through all the French national youth teams and has developed into a complete player in Ligue 1 in recent years, who is known above all for his strong standards and who can make the difference on the pitch . Angelo is in the prime of footballer age and has a player profile that we were still missing from the squad.”

Head coach Bo Svensson: “Angelo really wanted to come to us, which was very important to us. With his footballing quality, he will strengthen us in attacking midfield. He’s a ten, although not in the classic sense, who works a lot for the team. In addition, Angelo is a really good guy who fits in perfectly with Mainz 05 and our style of play.”

Angelo Fulgini: “I wanted to play in the Bundesliga and there were a few clubs that were interested in me, but Mainz 05 is the right club for me. I was convinced of that by the many good conversations I had with Bo Svensson, but also with Moussa Niakhaté, who is a very good friend of mine and who said wonderful things about Mainz 05. I am now looking forward to the Bundesliga and above all to all the Mainz fans.”
