Judokas after points for the Grand Slam of Budapest

SANTO DOMINGO. The top judo team will be part of the bulk of competitors who, starting this Thursday, will be competing for top honors in the Grand Slam of Judo that will be held from the 8th to the 10th of this month in Budapest, Hungary and that distributes points for the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020.

The participation of the nine athletes from Quito in the Grand Slam is part of the preparation program carried out by the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo) with a view to participating in future events.

The president of the Dominican Judo Federation, Mr. Gilberto García, informed that the participation of the group of athletes in the Grand Slam of Budapest has been possible with the support of the Group Creating Olympic Dreams (Creso).

The delegation is made up of Estefanía Soriano, in -48 kilos; Ana Rosa, in -57; Ariela Sánchez, in -63; Eiraima Silvestre, in -78; Moira Morillo, in -78; Antonio Tornal, in -73; Medickson of the Orb, at -81; José Nova, at +100, and Robert Florentino at -90.

Wander Mateo will assist the judokas as a coach.

“We are working in advance so that our athletes continue adding points and can reach the Olympic Games in Paris,” said Mr. García.

At the Grand Slam of Judo in Budapestest, whose agenda contains the weigh-in and the technical conference this Friday, will have competitions on Saturday and Sunday.

A total of 406 competitors, including 244 men and 162 women, from 61 of the five continents will take part in the contest.
