Umbria, dunqu, and returns to be at the center of the international archery scene. The world championship review of this fascinating archery discipline which has the merit of making the most of the naturalistic and cultural beauties of the territory by combining them with high competitive spirit, returns to be held after four years of absence due to the pandemic. The last edition was the Canadian one of Lac La Biche, where the Italian national team confirmed its position at the top of the discipline by winning six podiums, two silvers and four bronzes, finishing on the podium of the medal table for Nations as has always happened since the first edition. Also on this occasion Italy has every intention of confirming itself as the national leader of the 3D movement, despite the competition will be very fierce: in fact, over 300 archers are expected in Umbria, representing 30 nations.

As in previous experiences, the organization of the event was entrusted by FITARCO to ASD Arcieri Città di Terni. The club that, after the double organizational success of the previous international events, was able to do the same during national events such as the 2018 Grand Prix Campaign final, the 2016 Youth Centers ‘Italian Cup and the 2012 Regions’ Cup.
The team fielded by the President of the City of Terni Archers Stefano Tombesi is therefore well-established and ready to welcome archers and enthusiasts in this new great challenge. The Organizing Committee, which will count on over 100 volunteers also from other Italian regions, also counts on the patronage and support of the Umbria Region, the Municipality of Terni and the Municipality of Stroncone, as well as the support of the main sponsors, the CARIT Foundation of Terni. and Narni and the Chamber of Commerce of Umbria and the main partners, All Food and Umbria Energy.

The will of the organizers and the institutions was to make the most of the landscape beauties to enhance the territory that will host the competition also from a tourist point of view. This archery discipline is particularly suitable for highlighting the beauty of the landscape because it is a competition that takes place along paths surrounded by greenery, with the targets positioned in
slope and at unknown distances. Thus, if the logistic base will be the inevitable Archery Village which has now become a must in the international events organized by the City of Terni Archers, a real point of reference for athletes, technicians and guests, where there will also be test fields for the warm-up of athletes. Around the village, located in the Prati di Stroncone loc. Piani di Ruschio, three routes will be set up where the qualifying competition, the elimination phases and the team finals will be held. The finals valid for the individual world championships will instead be brought to the magical setting of the Archaeological Park of Carsulae, which in 2013 was already the site of the finals of the European Campaign Shooting Championship.

In the 3D archery discipline there are 4 divisions: compound, barebow, instinctive bow and longbow. For each type of bow, the individual world title will be assigned, both male and female, while the team tests foresee three archers for each team, one for each division: compound, longbow and an athlete of the naked bow or instinctive bow. From this edition, the world titles will also be awarded to mixed teams, reserved for two archers – man and woman belonging to the same division. The arrival of the delegations is expected from Thursday 1 September, for those who will have the greatest need to dispose of the time zone.

Sunday 4th September there will be the “material control”, the opening ceremony and to follow the meeting of the Captains. Monday 5th September all the competing archers will go to the Stroncone courses to kick off the first qualifying phase on 24 pitches, a qualifying match that will end Tuesday 6 September on routes that have another 24 pitches. Wednesday 7th September the preliminary and finals of the mixed team will be played, Thursday 8 September individual elimination matches will be played, while Friday 9 September it will be dedicated to team heats and finals. Saturday 10th September the caravan of finalists will move to Carsulae, where the individual world titles will be awarded. And after the award ceremony and the well-deserved celebrations, in the final evening that will take place in the streets of Stroncone, specially set up with a Renaissance setting, Sunday 11 September the departure of the delegations is expected.

To date, the following nations have already formalized their registration for the World Cup: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Ivory Coast, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, San Marino, Serbia, Sweden, Uruguay, United States of America. Italy is one of the strongest national teams on the entire world scene in the 3D discipline and the Azzurri have also demonstrated this in the latest international events, exactly as they did at the dawn of this specialty, officially inaugurated by World Archery (International Federation) in 2003. with a first “experimental” world championship.

In 2021 at the 3D European Championships no one did better than the archers led by the Technical Director Giorgio Botto: in Maribor, Slovenia, the Italians dominated by winning 12 medals (4 golds, 3 silvers and 5 bronzes) conquering the first place in the medal table, just like they had
made in the previous edition in Dublin. She also excelled at the last World Championships in Lac La Biche, Canada, with two silvers and four bronzes. Results in line with the fame of the Azzurri archers had also arrived in the previous world championships, considering the 5 podiums in Robion 2017 and the 10 that brought Italy to the top of the medal table in Terni 2015. A feast of medals that had been almost identical to Sassari 2013, where Italy obtained 9 podiums, confirming the great qualities already demonstrated in previous editions, starting with the first, held in 2003 in Sully sur Loire (7 podiums), continuing on to Genoa 2005 (4 podiums), Sopron 2007 (7 podiums) podiums), Latina 2009 (7 podiums) and Donnersbach 2011 (5 podiums).

The world championship event will be followed through the communication channels of FITARCO and World Archery, with news and photo gallery updated daily on websites and social profiles. For each day of competition, video images will be produced by the Italian Archery Federation, while a summary of the finals will be broadcast by RAI SPORT in the days following the event.
