Italy in first place in the medal table!

After the 7 team podiums, another 6 individual medals arrive

Italy closes the European Para-Archery Cup in Nove Mesto (Cze) with 13 medals. After seven yesterday in teams, another six arrive in the individual finals: 3 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. A great test by the group that next weekend will be in Lanciano (Ch) for the Italian Paralympic Championships and then, the first week of August, will be involved in the European Championships in Rome.

After yesterday’s domination with the teams, today the Italian national team repeats itself in Nove Mesto (Cze) in the European Para-Archery Cup, winning 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze in the individual finals, thus reaching 12 medals, thirteen if we also count the bronze of the mixed team of the W1 which did not, however, pull the final.

The adventure in the Czech Republic therefore ends with 7 golds, 3 silvers and 3 bronzes which are worth the first place in the medal table ahead of the Czech Republic (3 golds and 1 silver) and Great Britain (2 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes) .

An excellent performance by Italy which also led several athletes to their first international experiences in this trip. A result that bodes well, considering that next weekend the Azzurri will all be in Lanciano (Ch) to compete in the Italian Paralympic Championships and then, in the first week of August, they will all be in Rome to play for the European Para-Archery.

THE RESULTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL FINALS

In the first final of the days the blue derby of the women’s compound goes to Maria Andrea Virgilio and worth the bronze against Eleonora Sarti. The Tokyo medalist gets the better of her partner by winning the first two sets 30-28 and 28-27, Sarti raises his head in the third (28-27) but must then surrender in the next two closed by Virgilio 29-28 and 30-28 , so in the end the scoreboard scores 144-139. A beautiful final between the two blue who yesterday set the new world record in the team competition.
The other derby of the day goes to Daniele Piran beating in the Visually Impaired 2/3 gold challenge Giovanni Maria Vaccaro. The archer who during the qualifications had set the new Italian record on 72 arrows beats his partner 7-1, winning the first two partials 24-19 and 26-24, while the third ends up 25-25 while the fourth is still at advantage of Piran 24-15.
Gold medal also for Asia Pellizzari in the women’s W1 with 126-116 on the archer of the Czech Republic Tereza Brandtlova. The final is immediately uphill for the blue who loses the first volley 25-16, but manages to recover the disadvantage in the subsequent partial all won: 26-22, 28-24, 28-25 and 28-20.
Instead, he climbs to the second step of the compound podium Matteo Bonacina stopped in the final by Piotr Van Montagu 145-141. The two archers start strong with two 29-29 in a row, then the Belgian takes over, winning the third and fourth set 29-27 and 30-27. Bonacina thus has to recover five points in just three arrows, a very difficult feat that the blue is unable to accomplish despite the fact that he wins the last set 29-28.
The last final with Italy as protagonist is that of the women’s Olympic arc in which Vincenza Petrilli overwhelms the Japanese Chika Shigesada 6-0. An absolute domination by the reigning world champion with three sets won in a row 26-24, 26-23 and 25-23 and no space for the Japanese archer to win.
