In order for Bayern’s championship series (ten titles in a row) to finally come to an end, the ex-national team captain has a clear requirement for the competition, especially BVB: “Dortmund must be ready to drive every game in sixth gear. I do expect BVB to be at eye level in terms of mentality and concentration.”

What bothers the 2002 World Cup runners-up the most in the black and yellow: “The relationship between aspiration – becoming champion – and mentality – showing it every week – is not correct.”
Ballack, himself a three-time champion with Bayern and once with Kaiserslautern, continues: “They tend to get young players who aren’t ready yet, especially in terms of personality development. I’ll leave out Bellingham here. Many players didn’t manage to take this step from talent to top player, also in terms of mentality. That’s why they sometimes lose against Hertha or Bochum – and against Munich.”
Ballack wants to see a better mentality at BVB. A debate to which Borussia reacted rather irritably in the past. And now acted: With Süle, Schlotterbeck, Adeyemi, Özcan and Haller, Dortmund is currently initiating the big upheaval and wants to finally form a winning team that will knock Bayern off the throne.
Ballack about his former club: “The squad is still the strongest in the league. Bayern has the experience and self-image to become champions.”
Should BVB or another team not succeed in ending FCB’s dominance, changing the rules is not taboo for Ballack: “I think play-off games create more excitement, we see that in America. It would be helpful to think about it, also in the interest of the fans.”
Like Ballack, they only want one thing: finally more excitement in the championship race.
