Now it is official!
BVB newcomer Sebastien Haller (28) has been out for a long time due to his testicular tumor. The confirmed sports director Sebastian Kehl (42) at the press conference before the cup game against 1860 Munich.
Kehl: “The current findings are still ongoing. The path of therapy will now be discussed, there are different paths. I can anticipate one thing: we will certainly miss Sebastien for a few months.”
BVB announced on Tuesday that Haller was being operated on.
In a video with sponsor “1&1” Kehl confirmed: “The operation went very, very well and he is on the right track.”
And further: “He was super stable and incredibly positive and also said to the team: ‘Do your job, give everything. Make sure when I come back we’re still in the running.’ And so will the boys.”
Haller came from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer for a fee of 31 million euros plus possible bonuses, making him the most expensive striker in BVB history.
A week ago he had to abandon the training camp in Bad Ragaz (Switzerland) because the Ivorian was diagnosed with a tumour. Haller had previously complained of being unwell.
A bitter blow for Dortmund, who now have to look for a replacement.
Kehl on possible newcomers: “We are working on different options, different ideas and preparing for them. Nothing concrete at the moment. To be honest, I also believe that our squad offers us a lot of opportunities. We’ll only do something if it really makes sense in the end and otherwise we’ll give confidence to the guys we have here.”
