Bradley Beal, the choice of money

Being among the players having the choice to accept (or decline) a player option, Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards) ended up declining it and therefore being a potential name for transfers from the Free Agency. Renouncing the 36 million dollars which were promised to him within the framework of a year of extension of his contract, Bradley Beal could be tempted to negotiate a new big contract which could amount to beyond 200 million dollars for five seasons.

Bradley Beal, gone to stay?

Movement well known to followers of the North American league, some players choose to decline their player option to negotiate a multi-year contract and therefore a check multiplied by four or five.

In the case of Bradley Beal, a desire to leave the American capital would be quite surprising given his role as a franchise player that he holds and that he will necessarily seek to keep, even in the case of a transfer. The 29-year-old scorer is therefore currently trying to negotiate a big contract and therefore make a long-term commitment with the franchise that drafted him ten years ago.

A half-hearted final season

With only 40 games played this season due to multiple unavailability, an average of 22 points per game in the regular season (far from its standards at more than 30 points in the 19-20 season) and a very disappointing collective performance with a 12th-place finish in the East, the Wizards point guard’s season could complicate approaches from other franchises.

The size of the requested contract combined with the economic limitations of other franchises and the demands of the star point guard should complicate his chances of leaving the Wizards. His status as a “star” player despite often irregular performances does not help his situation, which should not find any other way out than that of staying in Washington.

What about a hypothetical future in Washington?

The arrival since last February of three major players in the Wizards workforce can also open up new prospects for Bradley Beal. Arrived at the start of the calendar year, the Porzingis unicorn, in distress on the Mavs side, had a very interesting end to the season with his new teammates. He could form a talented duo with Beal capable of catching fire from the parking lot and giving more freedom in the racket.

As for the “Big Men”, the staff of the Wizards took care to attract very good people to the Nuggets. Real assistants to Nikola Jokic in Denver, Will Barton and Monte Morris have just joined Washington and will be able to provide great support to a promising but too lonely Hachimura in recent seasons. Finally, the starting five should always give a place to the former Lakers and Nets, the pure shooter Kyle Kuzma who will have to revive after a complicated season in shooting (53% on two-point average and only 34% behind the line).

Bradley Beal therefore made a choice driven by a financial appetite by declining his player-option in order to position himself to negotiate a new big contract. If his situation should lead him to stay with the Wizards, the point guard, star of the franchise, will be able to count on a quality workforce to have new personal but above all collective ambitions by reaching the conference final in the East for the first times of his NBA career.
