Badminton hits hard in Montilla

badminton is a sport similar to tennis which is practiced on a much smaller court in which two players or two couples face each other. It consists of propelling the shuttlecock, a small ball in the shape of a half sphere, using a light racket with a long handle over a net located at a Approximate height of 150 centimeters .

Casado himself, Pepe Márquez, Rafa Ruiz, Pepe García, Miguel Espejo, Paco Jurado, Agustín Polo, Julio Cerezo, Rafa Luque, Rafael Padillo or Ángel Espejo were some of those who got hooked and they kept playing.

Soon, in 1993, Montilla held the X Andalusian Championship in which David Serrano, who has held the position of sports director of the Spanish Badminton Federation, was proclaimed champion. We had to wait until 2002 for the creation of its own sports program for badminton by the Municipal Sports Service led by Jorge Rey, although the club itself was not born until 2006. In the 2009/2010 season it became part of the F Andalusian Badminton Federation.

From the club they report that, from then on, important steps began to be taken, such as the organization of the first Ciudad de Montilla tournament or the launch of a learning school in September 2010. The Lucentian coach Eva Maria Peralvarez took charge of these functions during that year and in the following season the first important competition constituted by the Andalusian Under-19 and Veterans Championship. A national referee course was even organized to further establish the sport in the town.

Golden season

The Montillano club was in the locomotive that structured the provincial circuit from 2011. Shortly after he joined as coach Antonio José Pons and the sportsmen of the schools begin to reap very good results. In the 2012/2013 season he participated for the first time in the Spanish championship with Marcos García.

In the next one they summon the first player to a concentration of the Andalusian federation, it is played in the first master and in the Andalusian second national league with a compact team and with important signings such as the Cardador brothers and Zhanna Mozzherina. A final was reached that no one expected, leaving runners-up in this debut.

Then a golden age began with names like Paquito Cobos and high-level competitions such as Spanish Championships Championships of Andalusia and Spain under 15 with great organizational success.

And in 2016 promotion was achieved to play in the first national division with good results in teams and individually . . . . Highlighting names like Paquito Cobos, Marta Rodriguez, Antonio Raigon, Segio Cardador, Miguel and Rafael Carrasco or Jorge Laviña.

The club focuses on training members as coaches for its schools which have more than 60 members, most competing at the provincial level. Nowadays the club continues to reap successes despite the situation generated by the pandemic that paralyzed all sports competitions for health reasons.

The club did not stop fighting and continues to be present in championships at all levels and continues to face new challenges. What is clear is that badminton montillano hits hard and leaves its mark.
