ATP: Nick Kyrgios’ court hearing postponed for three weeks

SYDNEY, Australia – Australian Nick Kyrgios, summoned to appear in a Canberra court in early August on charges of assault, has had his hearing postponed for three weeks, local justice officials said on Friday.

The 27-year-old, who was due to appear in court next week, will finally speak on August 23.

At the beginning of July, Nick Kyrgios’ lawyer had indicated to the daily Canberra Times that his client was subpoenaed for an assault charge following an incident in December 2021.

Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Police said in a brief statement that “a 27-year-old man from Watson is due to appear in ACT Magistrates’ Court on August 2”. without giving their identity.

Law firm Johannessen Legal, which no longer represents Kyrgios, said at the time that the player was “committed to addressing all allegations once they are clear”.

Kyrgios, if legally represented, will not need to be present.

The Wimbledon finalist, 47th in the world, should take part in the United States Open which will take place from August 29. Currently, he is competing in the Atlanta Open in doubles, alongside his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.

He is also expected to play the Cincinnati Open from August 13-21.
