Aston Martin reveals plans to replace Sebastian Vettel

Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack has urged to keep the focus on Sebastian Vettel for now, as friend and foe alike want to know who will take the four-time world champion’s seat next season.

Vettel announced last Thursday that he is working on his last season in Formula 1. The German, who has abstained from social media for a while, created an account on Instagram especially for the announcement. His first post was that he announced that after 16 years in Formula 1 he would be retiring. The German’s departure also opens the door for new talent, but the team boss first wants to focus on this weekend before focusing on 2023.

Lance Stroll won’t be leaving the Aston Martin team anytime soon, so speculation about the seat next to the Canadian is rife. “It is clear that there is indeed a lot of speculation now that Sebastian has announced his retirement. I think we should keep our eyes on Sebastian this weekend and not speculate about names,” he explains. After the race weekend, the team will consider the second seat at Aston Martin. Krack: “We’re going to look at that from Monday. If we have someone, we’ll let you know.”

De Vries on the list

Nyck de Vries has shown his best side this season. He managed to stand out during the first free practice in Spain. Then the Frisian was allowed to show himself in Alexander Albon’s Williams. Last weekend, the reigning Formula E champion was allowed to take a seat in Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes during the first free practice in France. “Nyck is one of the many drivers and I know him from Formula E. He’s a nice guy, he drove the Williams and last week in the Mercedes. He’s one of the drivers we’re looking at, but there are also others,” explains Krack.
